China day 12

The town of WuHu was an interesting place to spend new years day.  The whole city was under construction basically, so we didn’t have much sightseeing to do.  The hotel again was breathtaking, they are really doing a great job of putting us up in hotels on this tour overall.
The gig was at a gym converted into an arena.  Which would have been fun, except the sound guys didn’t have a clue that we needed monitors due to the size of the venue…. And…. The town didn’t have timpani!!!  So I had much of the night off, which honestly was a total bummer.  Still played bells, and added some bell parts and accessory parts to fill the gaps, but the sound was a lot less grounded without the low end of the Timps.  On the plus side, Gabe, the bassist, let me sight read electric on two of the three songs that called for it, and he just played upright.  So that definitely made up for it.  What a guy.  I have to say though that it was somewhat exhilarating sight playing bass and bells in front of 3000 people.
